The first thing I did after I got the email about the 10 day free trial was to find out where the client was and download it. Its about 4.2 gigs so if you have a slow connection you decide to activate your trial before downloading and updating then you will end up with a 5 day free trial. Luckily I downloaded it at about 1 MB/s and got it updated to 3.0.8 in no time.
I quickly learned a couple of things about the trial. While your on the trial you cannot level past 71 youll stop just shy of leveling. This in turn causes me to not really want to do the quests. Luckily theres lots to do a whole new WORLD! *cough* ok.. so the moment I stepped foot in Northrend I began to Summon my trusty Netherdrake. FAIL!!!
Right... Cannot use a flying mount to level 77 something or other? Ok I hope on my faithful Frostwolf and make my way towards where Dalaran is supposed to be floating. Beautiful scenery all around, picked up some quests, ran past some angry locals. No big deal.. found I could easily kill level 73-74 mobs at 70.
On the way to Dalaran I learned of a couple of cool things Blizzard added. For example you have a sort of Pet Key Ring one for your mounts and one for your little fun pets. This is actually really cool as there are a lot of people that have to bank mounts or delete them... or get rid of cool pets just because there simply is not enough space. About this time I also discovered the Acheivements, they work just like the acheivements from other games. Just about everything nets you an acheivement from earning gold to completing raids. The cool part is they added alot of acheivements for "Classic" and "TBC" content. Some of it was already checked off. The game already knew which old skool dungeons I had completed which was very cool. I started off with about 1000+ acheivement points. They even had a Leeroy Jenkins acheivement but it was for killing 50 welps in 15 seconds.
When I got into the zone Dalaran floats in ... the city just up and moved itself to Northrend... not the people but the entire freaking city. I found a little teleport stone that could teleport me up. Unfortunatly no luck have to come down before you can go up. Ok... /who mage /tell BlingBlinkyWTB Port to Dalaran. Nothing to it problem solved. After I checked out the city, found the bank, slummed in the sewers, found the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Splinter I was about to callit a day when I noticed someone doing a pick up Black Temple raid. This is one of the benefits of the Acheivement system. There is a very good chance that the newer players will get to see older content which is awesome!
So I ran a BT raid. Marveled at how easy we ran through it with our group of 70s-80s and took amoment to realize how hard this content probably was the first time through it when it was being broken. The only down side to it was that we could muscle our way through. Very little of anythingneeded to be known about the fights in advance... just dont die, and tank and spank.
After that I decided to log for the nite. I had thouroughly enjoyed my first day back to WoW with out doing any quests.
